Background

A new constitution for ADGP was adopted at the ADGP AGM of 21 November 2003.  One of the changes resulting from the new constitution was a reduction in the member number composition of ADGP's Board from 15 Directors (14 GPs and 1 non-GP) to 9 Directors (8 GPs and 1 non-GP).  The newly structured Board commenced on 1 June 2004.  The constitution provided for the new Board to serve until the 2005 AGM to enable a period of stability for the Board and ADGP prior to the introduction of a rotation system for Board member retirements commencing from the 2006 AGM.

To introduce the rotation system, all current ADGP Board members retired at the 2005 AGM.  Elected Directors from the ADGP Board election round took office following the 2005 AGM with a knowledge of whether they will serve a one year or two year term.  Those with a one year term retire at the 2006 AGM from which the rotation system will be fully implemented with all subsequent terms for Directors being two years.  In line with the constitution, four Directors served a a one year term following the 2005 AGM.

Names were drawn from a hat to determine which States/Territories (including the non-GP Director) had Directors serving a one year or two year term.  The NT GP Director was elected in 2005 for a one year term. 

Thus the NT GP Director position is up for election (two year term) from 28 November 2006 to the conclusion of the 2008 ADGP AGM.

Although SBOs are members of ADGP, they do not have voting rights for the election of ADGP Directors but will coordinate the call for nominations phase of the election for their State/Territory.
