Hot IssuesIAP2 is an association of members who seek to promote and improve the practice of public participation in relation to individuals, governments, institutions, and other entities that effect the public interest in nations throughout the world. IAP2 carries out its mission by organizing and conducting activities to:
Promote a results-oriented research agenda and use research to support educational and advocacy goals; and GPCensusProvide technical assistance to improve public participation. IAP2 was founded in 1990 as the International Association of Public Participation Practitioners (IAP3) to respond to the rising global interest in public participation. The organization now has members in 22 countries.
- IAP2 launched its Certificate Training Course in Public Participation providing comprehensive training in the tools and skills needed for effective participation. Today's IAP2 is organized around a high calibre Board of Directors, a strong international headquarters, 19 worldwide chapters, and several emerging professional sectors all contributing to its ongoing success. GPCensus FAQ The IAP2 model was chosen to form the basis of the Divisons education and training workshop, workbook and powerpoint presentation. The education package has been adapted from a similar training package developed by IAP2 in conjunction with Twyford Consulting (Ph: 02 42264040) for the Queensland Local Governement Association (

distinguish between the terms of community consultation, community engagement, and consumer participation establish the issue, problem or scope of a decision requiring community engagement select the most appropriate level of engagement using the IAP2 Spectrum understand the benefits and costs of a number of community engagement techniques prepare for and implement a number of community engagement techniques Community Engagement Training Workbook A workbook has been developed to compliment the training and education workshop. This workbook is a useful resource for Division staff to refer to when undertaking a Community Engagement process. This powerpoint presentation has been developed specifically for the training workshop.
