Welcome to the first edition of the "Immunisation Kit: A practical guide to effective vaccine management". This resource has been developed to support Divisional Immunisation officers as they support general practice tams with immunisation issues.
The Divisions Network is the key infrastructure in Australia for general practice to integrate with primary health care services and participate in population health activities. Division programs and activities focus on health promotion, preventive health care, managing chronic disease and raising awareness and promoting good practice.
This Kit has been developed with the support of key stakeholders in immunisation, namely:
- Medicare Australia
- National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance
The "Immunisation Kit: A practical guide to effective vaccine management" was funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, following an agreed need for information consistency and the promotion of quality practice principles.
It is planned to be a living document. As changes are made to the Immunisation Program in Australia, AGPN with the support of others will update this Kit live on AGPN’s website for access by all Divisional Immunisation support officers, state jurisdictions, Aboriginal Medical Services staff and any other providers involved in keeping our immunisation rate above 90% in Australia.
This Kit is divided into a number of sections and highlights the key areas of focus for the National Immunisation Program in terms of quality and outcomes.
* SECTION ONE provides basic information on vaccine management, in particular, the national vaccine storage guidelines, standards and accreditation.
* SECTION TWO provides information direct from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register on various aspects of data management, with a particular emphasis on electronic transmission, accessing reports, and a number of forms which assist with managing the data.
* SECTION THREE provides space for incoming information on new national programs. Included in this section are fact sheets on the two new additions to the national schedule from a 1 November 2005.
* SECTION FOUR provides a free section for the space of information with specific relevance for state and territory implementation issues.
* SECTION FIVE provides some helpful resources, including audits, flowcharts, adverse events, temperature monitoring, national due and overdue rules, and other.
* CONTACTS provides information on contacts and the national, state, and local levels.
The CD-ROM accompanying the kit contains an electronic copy of the manual, as well as a power point presentation on what the manual has to offer, for orientation purposes for new staff.
AGPN wishes to acknowledge the work of the National Immunisation Committee – the peak immunisation strategy group in developing strategies to enhance our immunisation services to Australia, with general practice they key delivery mechanism for immunisation.
This manual is based on sourcing all resources pertinent to the delivery of immunisation services.
