Health Economics for Divisions
How I came to love health economics... and all in the space of just one November day in Perth!
Curtin University Campus, Perth Thursday 3 November 2005 9.30 - 4.30 Total fee: $130
Lunch, morning and afternoon tea and coffee provided as well as transport to and from Curtin University (about 20 minutes from the Perth Convention Centre). Includes a course manual for participants. This course will give both GP and non GP-members of Divisions the opportunity to understand the basics of health economics. Emphasis will be on:
- learning the thinking of health economics; and
- how to apply health economics in simple practical ways.
Among the topics covered will be basic economics, economic evaluation (cost effectiveness and cost benefit analysis), priority setting and equity. There will also be a session where participants can raise specific issues that have arisen 'back at the ranch' and get advice as to how to tackle them from an economics perspective.
The whole day will be as interactive as participants want to make it.
Facilitator and Tutor: Professor Gavin Mooney Gavin is a very experienced, internationally recognised, health economist with an enthusiasm for teaching. He has published well over 200 articles in health economics and over 20 books. He has acted as an adviser to WHO on many occasions. He is also an invited speaker at the Forum.
Note. Places are limited to 30 to ensure a good interactive learning environment so be quick!
