Consumer and Carer Resources
Introduction The Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA) was contracted to produce consumer and carer education resources for Managing the Mix. The resources were distributed during 2005 to GPs across the Divisions of General Practice involved in Managing the Mix.
The resources, designed to help people who may not realise they have alcohol, anxiety and/or depression problems, and their carers, have been a great sucess. The resources were intended to raise awareness that these problems commonly occur together, as well as provide information and advice about risks, treatment options, GP support, and referrals.
This work was part of a government-community-general practice partnership, established between the Australian Divisions of General Practice (ADGP), the Australian Governments Departments of Health and Ageing (Drug Strategy Branch, Rural Health and Palliative Care Branch) and Veterans' Affairs (Younger Veterans and VVCS Branch), the Primary Mental Health Care Resource Centre (PARC) at Flinders University, and the Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA). Funding was provided by the Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation (AERF) and the Australian Government.
The Resources Based on feedback from consumers, carers, clinicians, divisions of general practice staff, mental health workers and drug and alcohol workers, the following 3 resources were produced. (Please note that there may be a slight delay in downloading due to the size of the documents. Also note that owing to its size, the Pamphlet has been split into 4 sections).
