CURRENT PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS

Divisional Management Program

This program is designed to enable the Division to continuously examine and improve its management and corporate governance. This is achieved by:

  • Regular review of Policy and Procedure Manuals, best practice guidelines for financial management and budgeting and ensuring that sound administration systems are in place are all important aspects of this program.
  • Maintaining and reviewing staff through annual performance appraisals and contract review.
  • Tightening of corporate governance procedures by developing role statements and to improve risk management procedures.

This program will also focus on communication and representation by GPs and Division staff in local/state/commonwealth health service planning

GP Program

The core component of this program is recruitment and retention and includes all services the Division provides to its GP members, including:

  • Meeting the needs of our GP members by offering professional support through Continuing Medical Education (CME), Accreditation, Enhanced Primary Care (EPC), PIP, Locum, Practice Staff support etc.
  • Further development of the Doctors health network.
  • Provision of support to RMO/GP Registrars.
  • Encourage more GPs to come this area .
  • Locum service provided either by supplying locum as available or putting GPs in contact with possible locum support.

Population Health Program

This program involves our health focused program including Diabetes, Pain Management, Immunisation and Men's Health.

Diabetes - aims to have the GPs in the area identify patients with undiagnosed diabetes and for them to follow current best practice.

Pain Management in Nursing Homes - aims to have better pain management of nursing home patients and to improve communication between GPs and nursing home staff.

Immunisation - aims to have accurate and up to date immunisation information going to GP and to the ACIR, reduce the time spent on inaccurate immunisation notifications and efficacy of vaccines.

Men's Health - collect data and local program developed to address men's health issues in the area.

Finally this program deals with communication between the GPs/Division and the Community through Community Reference Group meetings, Community Newsletter and consultation with relevant community members/groups.

Alternate Funding Program

This program will enable capacity building by the Division by allowing us to investigate and access, if appropriate, alternate funding sources.

Information Management and Information Technology Program

This program is designed to support and provide technical solutions for General Practice and the Divisions needs.

This accomplished by:

  • Obtaining feedback from GP members as to what services they require
  • The provision of technical support and solutions in all areas of General Practice including electronic downloading of pathology etc.
  • Developing and providing a training program to meet the educational needs of the GP members.
  • Provision of one to one training as required.
  • Development of Division web site.
  • Liaison with other IM/IT service providers as they relate to general practice and the Division of General Practice.
  • Maintain existing procedures and systems.
  • Meet with adjoining Division IM/IT coordinators regularly.
