The North West Slopes Division of General Practice is based in Tamworth, NSW and encompasses the towns of Tamworth, Walcha, Quirindi, Werris Creek and Kootingal. There is a total of six staff members employed at the Division including CEO, Planning and Health Programs Coordinator, GP Services Program Coordinator, Information Tecnology and Information Management (IM/IT) Program Coordinator, Executive Assistant and GP Locum.
The Division offers a number of services to our GP members including locum services, accreditation advise, Immunisation services, CME, IM/IT support, health programs and more. We have a total membership of 93%.
This Division forms part of the New England Health Service and is shared with the Barwon Division located in Moree and the New England Division in Armidale. The three Divisions meet formally three times a year and informal discussion as the need arises to discuss issues that are relevant to the area and work together on selected projects.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
The North West Slopes Division almost folded back in 1995, curtailing activity to just CME and receipt of correspondence. Since 1996, with a new Executive Manager appointed and activity recommencing, our membership base has gone from 60% to 93%.
The Division is now fully functioning with management, program and administration staff, a board of directors and strong commitment to provide a quality service to the GPs and community of the North West Slopes area.
CHALLENGES FOR THE FUTURE
Implementing the new strategic plan and to strengthen the Divisions direction over the coming 12 months.
