The Division spreads from the outer northern suburbs of Adelaide, encompassing the satellite city of Elizabeth, the previously small town of Salisbury (now a suburb) and the semi-rural town of Gawler.

The area served by the Division is diverse economically, socially and in the types of industry in which the community engages. Industry ranges from heavy manufacturing through defence and aviation to horticulture, viticulture to broad acre farming and stock breeding. The Adelaide Northern Division has developed strategic alliances with a range of stakeholders. These include; Northern Metro Community Health Service , Salisbury Council, Northern Adelaide Region of Councils, Gawler Health Service, North Western Adelaide Health Service, Lyell McEwin Health Service, the Division of Medicine and the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Adelaide Womens and Childrens Hospital, the Emergency Service and the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, GP Homelink, Supportlink and Care21/Northern Venture Co-ordinated Care Trials.
The Mission of the Adelaide Northern Division of General Practice is to promote and support the provision of high quality primary medical services to the community. Their vision is excellence, innovation, leadership and collaboration in the provision of primary medical services.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
- The establishment of a well respected shared-care mental health program which recently received first prize in the poster competition at the Australian and New Zealand Psychiatry Conference.
- The establishment of a palliative care program in the town of Gawler. This program was subsequently adopted by the Gawler Health Service and has therefore become a sustainable part of the health care landscape.
- The implementation of a good governance program for the Board which has included a training program, and the implementation ofGreater South Eastern Division of General Practice
