The Aged Care GP Panels Initiative (ACGPPI) was implemented as part of a broader set of changes being introduced to strengthen and protect Medicare.  Also introduced was a Medicare Item to enable medical practitioners (including GPs but not including specialists or consultant physicians) to undertake a Comprehensive Medical Assessment (CMA) of new and existing residents (if required) of aged care homes.  This has been supported by the introduction of the collaborative Residential Medication Management Review (RMMR) MBS Item number 903.  These items are only two MBS Items available to GPs providing services in Residential Aged Care Facilities.

A number of Divisions and SBOs have developed resources that identify the MBS Items available to GPs providing services in RACFs.  Others have developed resources and presentations that assist in developing / establishing a sustainable business case for GPs working in or considering working in RACFs.
