Projects run by the Division include:
- CardioRisk Program
- Providing Dietetic and Diabetes Education in GP surgeries for patients with primary Cardio Vascular disease and Diabetes.
- Divisional CARDIAB register, recall and reminder system to support the program.
- Aged Care GP Panels
- The aim of this program is to improve access to primary medical care for residents of Aged Care Homes and to enable GP's to work with staff in Aged Care Homes to assist with quality improvement strategies for the care of all residents.
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Great Southern Division of General Practice works with our customers to identify their CPD needs. The CPD committee, which includes a GP then coordinates relevant CPD events.
- CPD events include:
- 2/3 weekend events per year
- Bi-monthly Breakfast Journal Club meetings
- Regular events throughout the region
- Immunisation
- Great Southern Division of General Practice assists in enhancing immunisation services provided by GP's in order to facilitate improved Immunisation amongst children 0 - 5 years
- Cold Chain Audit and Maintenance
- ACIR practice support
- NHMRC guidelines and schedule updates
- Dissemination of state and national information pertaining to communicable diseases.
- Better Outcomes in Mental Health (BOIMH)
- The Division can provide support for education and training to familiarise GP's with the initiative and to build on mental health assessment and treatment skills. The Division also runs a counselling service for people referred by their GP (who are registered with the initiative) in Albany.
- Quality Use of Medicines
- The Division facilitates National Prescribing Services (NPS) and supports the Home Medicine Reviews program. The NPS program provides education and information about quality use of Medicines to GP's, specialists, pharmacists and consumers. The Division has a staff member who can facilitate NPS case study events and these are held regularly as part of our CPD calendar.
- Workforce Support
- As part of our Workforce Support for General Practitioners the Great Southern Division of General Practice has developed a GP resource directory. We also provide support to Practice Managers, and Practice Nurses through regular meetings and updates.
