Summary of Programs & Projects:
The current programs of the EGMDGP are as follows:

Workforce Program :

  • Locum Program  - All GPs in the region have access to the Regional Locum for both recreational and educational leave.  EGMDGP established an MOU between WACRRM and the AMA to undertake the Regional Locum Program.
    Female GP Program - The aim is to support female GPs and Specialists recognising the unique environment they work in balancing both professional and family commitments.
  • Practice Nurse Program - Promote and support the role of the Practice Nurse and Aboriginal Health Worker in the region.  The EGMDGP is currently exploring opportunities to provide education and training grants to assist Practice Nurses and Aboriginal Health Workers.
  • Support of Practice Staff  - An annual weekend is provided to all practice staff throughout the region.  Networking opportunities are supported and encouraged.

    Remote GPs Travel Subsidy - Remote GPs are able to access a travel subsidy to attend education, training and meetings in either Kalgoorlie or Esperance.2115, 2116, 2117, 2123, 2141, 2142, 2144, 2145, 2146, 2147, 2148, 2149, 2150, 2151, 2152, 2160, 2761, 2766, 2767, 2770.

Education Program:

    Population
  • Education and Training Grants  - Ten Education and Training Grants are available annually to enable GPs to attend education and training outside the regional boundaries. 598,820
  • Education Program  - GPs in Kalgoorlie and Esperance can attend Divisional educational activities such as case study breakfasts and evening talks. 
  • Two weekend programs are held each year  - one in Esperance and one in Kalgoorlie. Area Covered
  • GP Training  - The Division is working in partnership with the Rural Clinical School, Aboriginal Medical Service and Goldfields South East Health Region to establish a regional GP Training program.The WentWest DoHA funded boundaries encompass four local Government areas (LGAs): Auburn, Blacktown (including Mt Druitt area), Holroyd and Parramatta.

  • CVD Program  - Based in Esperance this program supports clients in the provision of the Take Heart Program and other initiatives to assist their rehabilitation back into the community.  The EGMDGP employs a CVD Co-ordinator , Physiotherapist and collaborates with Community Health to provide prevention strategies related to healthy living.   • Podiatry and Nutritional Program  - Podiatry and Nutritional Program provides services in Wiluna through an MOU arrangement with WA Country Health Service Murchison and Murchison Health region - Murchison District, GSEHR,  Ngangganawili Aboriginal Community Controlled Health & Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation (NACCHMS), and Eastern Goldfields Medical Division of General Practice Ltd.  It also provides services at Bega Garnbirringu Community Controlled Aboriginal Corporation and is currently investigating options for a practice based service delivery program in Kalgoorlie.
  • Counselling Services  - The EGMDGP employs a Counsellor in partnership with Goldfields Women's Health Care Centre to provide short term intervention counselling services to women of Kalgoorlie.
  • Physiotherapy Services - Remote - The EGMDGP is currently investigating ongoing provision of these services in Laverton and Leonora.
  • Immunisation Program  
    This program promotes and supports practices in their provision of immunisation within the EGMDGP region in collaboration with GSEHR, including initiatives such as 'Superneedle'.
  • Healthy Youth  
    The aim of the project is to identify current services provided to youth in the region including obesity, physical inactivity and awareness of accessing health services.
  • Eastern Goldfields Regional Reference Site  
    GP Access to Broadband - The EGMDGP has been chosen as the national reference site to trial, test, measure and demonstrate the benefits to GPs and other health care providers of having high speed, continuous broadband connectivity.  The region replicates urban, rural and remote conditions, and this program will link healthcare providers and the community in a more efficient health care system and demonstrate increased access to a wider range of services.
  • Rural Palliative Care Project  
    The project is funded through ADGP and aims to increase the knowledge and resources available to GPs, encourage a multidisciplinary team approach in treatment, working closely with Indigenous Elders enabling increased access for Aboriginal patients and working in parallel with Silver Chain to promote and provide palliative care in the region.
  • Better Outcomes in Mental Health  
    This project is funded by the Australian Government to increase access of mental health patients to short term intervention counselling services located out of GP Practices in Esperance. 
  • Strengthening Mining Communities in the Eastern Goldfields  
    This project aims to provide up to date information on health services and activities that men can engage with through health promotional activities and the 'Wellman' website. Physical Address:

    This research project aims to investigate the impact of industry work practices on the social, physical and psychological wellbeing of men and their families in regional and remote mining communitites of the Goldfields region of Western Australia.
  • National Prescribing ServicePARRAMATTA NSW 2150
    This project employs a Pharmacist Contractor to provide one-to-one and group training to GPs and pharmacists in the remote region and Esperance.
