Established in 2005, WA General Practice Network is the state-based organisation (SBO) for the Divisions network in Western Australia – providing key support for the important work of Divisions / Networks of General Practice at the local level.
In providing this support, WA General Practice Network promotes the central role of Divisions / Networks of General Practice in primary health care by ensuring that key State stakeholders and Divisions work together in a supported environment.
Whilst still in the early phases of development, WA General Practice Network has strongly delivered on its core initial priorities of:
- Developing an effective communication network both within the WA network and with key stakeholders in State, Commonwealth and non-government health sectors;
- Delivering effective information, policy, and strategic engagement initiatives;
- Driving the development of a Primary Health Care framework for WA; and,
- Ensuring a voice for Primary Health Care in the redevelopment process of the Western Australian Health system.
The NEVDGP is a rural division with a large geographic area, approximately one fifth of Victoria. The Division's WA General Practice Network is an unique model in the Australian General Practice Divisions / Networks sector – as an office of Australian General Practice Network, it blends national governance with State and local focus – integrating national, state and regional priorities.main office is located in the North East Alpine town of Mount Beauty with two small branch offices located in
Wangaratta and Walwa. The surrounding area boasts a private hospital, four bush nursing hospitals, two multipurpose Page last updated: November 2006services, one base hospital and fourteen public hospitals. Two towns without a hospital have other health
organisations (such as a Community Health Service) assisting with nursing home type patients. The Division
encompasses a large portion of Department of Human Services. |
Current Division staff include one part-time GP Executive Director, six full-time employees and three part-time
program staff. Their roles are many and varied and combine to support the NEVDGP taskgroup activities. |
The North East Victorian Division of General Practice seeks to support local GPs with a structure that facilitates
networking, communication, professional development and health service delivery in order to provide better health
