History and Overview of the Division:
The South Eastern Sydney Division of General Practice (SESDGP) was formally inaugurated at a meeting of 105 local GPs, held on May 12, 1993, at which a Management Committee was elected. Federal funding commenced in September 1993 and a GP Director was appointed in November 1993.

The Division was originally incorporated under the Association Incorporation Act 1984 on December 6, 1993. At the EGM on 24 September 2001, members passed two resolutions: to incorporate the Division to a Company under the Corporations Act 2001 and to adopt the new Constitution. This reflects increased complexity and scope of the Division’s activities increase in membership, as well as an increased level of overall funding (OBF and program specific grants and independent source of funds).

Program Management:
Program Officers, GP Advisors and Programs Manager meet regularly to review the progress of individual programs. Issues relevant to program activities, evaluation, funding. All Program Officers work closely with their GP Advisors in accordance with the Strategic and Business Plans.

The Newsletter: 'SouthEastern News':
The bimonthly circulation of the Division's newsletter - SouthEastern News - includes members, associate members, local specialists, and other Divisions with a periodic circulation to local councils, South Eastern Illawarra Area Health Service, local pharmacies and other relevant stake holders. The newsletter provides our colleagues with stimulating reading and an insight into issues of current controversies that may affect the future of general practice as well as news of local and national significance. Members are kept abreast of divisional activities and topical issues such as GP funding.

‘SouthEastern News’ is managed completely ‘in house’ with expert advice provided by a general practitioner.

Health Service:
The Division is one of six Divisions of General Practice that are geographically located within the South Eastern Illawarra Area Health Service. The other Divisions are St George, Sutherland, Eastern Sydney, Illawarra and Shoalhaven Divisions. The GP members of the SESDGP refer most of their patients to the Randwick Hospital Campus which includes the Sydney Children's Hospital, the Royal Hospital for Women, the POW Private Hospital and an expanded POW Public Hospital.

Division’s Board:
The Board meets monthly to review divisional activities and programs. Current health policies and departmental guidelines are considered, the Division’s current strategic and business plans reviewed and issues likely to impact on general practice discussed.
