MISSION STATEMENT
"The core business of the Division is to support GPs in delivering quality primary health care and achieving a quality professional life.."
The Capricornia Division represents over 108 General Practitioners practising in 44 general practices in the Rockhampton, Capricorn Coast and Gladstone areas.
The Division provides activities that aim to improve the clinical care provided by GPs and assist in ensuring the effectiveness of their practice.
The Division also has a focus on the integration of health services, especially those in the primary care arena, and on the maintenance of health and wellbeing amongst local GPs.
MAJOR ACHEIVEMENTS
Major activities within the Business Program include:
- Traineeships for Practice Staff Training and Development
- PKI and Healthlink implementation
- Involvement in the Qld Health Pilot Study (electronic GP / hospital communications using PKI)
The Population Health Program focuses on activities that maximise the impact of general practice on the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. Effective patient communication strategies is one of the key focuses of the Division in helping GPs achieve patient goals in the areas of Smoking, Nutrition, Alcohol and Physical Activity (SNAP).
The Women's Health Education Series is a popular professional development opportunity and has involved local and visiting guest speakers on a variety of topics including Contraception, Endometriosis, Infertility, Vulval Problems, Menstrual Disorders, Urinary Incontinence, HRT and Sexuality and the Older Woman.
The More Allied Health Services (MAHS) program provides easy and free access to allied health services in the Capricorn Coast and Gladstone areas, providing 1147 patients with allied health services in 2003/2004, including Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Psychology, Diabetes Education and Asthma Education.
The Capricornia Mental Health Partnerships (CaMHP) project provides GPs with improved patient access to free Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS)
The Division's Practice Nurse Program focuses on three key areas to support nurses in Capricornia practices - Recruitment and Retention, Continuing Professional Development and Professional Support.
The Division encourages its GPs to participate in the community by contributing to fortnightly Family Health segments on ABC Capricornia Radio. GPs have also participated in the annual Qld Cancer Fund Relay for Life.
