The Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice continues to be a proactive member within the wider Sunshine Coast Health community. It has forged and strengthened links with Queensland Health, University of the Sunshine Coast, North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health (NCACCH), Specialist, allied health providers, and numerous community groups and organizations.
The Division is identified as an integral part within the health professional community and as such has membership on a wide variety of committees providing information on health delivery at primary, secondary and tertiary care levels.
The Division seeks to build collaborative networks with other Divisions both intra and interstate as well as internationally.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS:
- Achieving accreditation: - The Sunshine Coast of Division of General Practice (SCDGP) achieved full ISO accreditation in August 2006.
- Collaboratives: – The Division has recruited and worked with 25 General Practices through Wave 1- Wave 3 of the Collaboratives Program.
- BOiMHC & MAHS: – A robust program is offered by therapists across the Sunshine Coast Division. The 6 employed therapists and 5 contracted therapists received 1,375 referrals in the 2005-2006 financial year with an average wait time for an appointment being 2-3 weeks.
- GPS Support: – The Division offers a high quality of General Practice Support to all members of the General Practice team. This is provided through quality educational activities, one on one practice visits and online assistance.
- IT &IM Support: – The Division has recently instigated a new electronic discharge summary process with Queensland Health, Nambour Hospital Campus and Medical Objects. It is anticipated that this project will be expanded to cover all Queensland Health hospitals within the Sunshine Coast Division over the next 12 months
- Education and Training: – The Division has successfully implemented the Graduate Certificate In Nursing (General Practice) in 2006. This initiative is available to other Divisions nationally and is facilitated through the Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice and University of the Sunshine Coast.
ONGOING CHALLENGES:
- Maintain relevance to GPs and practice staff
- Provision of relevant quality education and training
- Manage change within a dynamic and resource limited health care environment.
- Establish and maintain links with other health professionals and community groups
- Share in the management of quality health information systems
