From 1 July 2006, South Gippsland Division of General Practice changed their name to General Practice Alliance - South Gippsland Limited with a trading name of GPA South Gippsland.
Located in south-east Victoria, the Division's location is a unique blend of green rolling hills and at times rugged coastline. The major townships of Wonthaggi, Korumburra, Leongatha, Foster, Yarram and Cowes are all serviced by hospitals. The Division plays an important role in enhancing General Practice and community health care by:
- Supporting GPs with their own professional development through Continuing Medical Education (CME) and involvement in programs.
- Assisting GPs to keep up-to-date with health issues at the local, State and national levels.
- Supporting GPs to become involved in community education.
- Linking GPs with health authorities, hospitals, allied health professionals, community groups and consumers.
- Developing improved communication between doctors in the region, thus overcoming distances between practices and the feeling of isolation.
