For GPs, ERM means:

ERM will increase the capacity of General Practice. GPs will be provided with assistance in ensuring specific groups within their practice population receive the best evidence based care possible. |

ERM will not in any way restrict doctors? freedom to prescribe the most appropriate treatments and medicines for their patients. The ERM group supports clinical autonomy as a fundamental principle of general practice. |

ERM will initially explore better ways to manage PBS funding at a local level |
GPs will be provided more resources for patient care. GPs will, through their Divisions of General Practice and in consultation with their communities, determine where these resources should be directed to meet the areas of need within their patient populations. |
Involvement in the ERM program will be voluntary and GPs can be involved at a level that they choose. Participation by GPs will not affect Medicare fee-for-service. Any initiatives funded through future ERM projects will be additional to existing Medicare services.
