What is ERM?

What is Effective Resource Management?

GP-led initiatives to improve the quality of health care

More effective use of health resources

Providing local solutions for local problems

Effective Resource Management involves supporting quality improvement activities within general practice (for example; evidence based prescribing), using a variety of locally driven initiatives.  Quality based initiatives will provide more resources to general practice and enhanced care for patients. The range of patient services will be increased and best clinical practice within the context of ethical and optimal health resources will be delivered.

The following principles are guiding the development of the Effective Resource Management proposal:

GP supported and driven initiative
  The close involvement of stakeholders, including consumers in its development;
  Professional and business autonomy of GPs
  Empowerment of GPs to decide how to best use available resources
  Respect for consumer choice
  Quality Improvement based methods
   Use of evidence based medicine

Efficiencies gained through ERM must be reinvested in delivering local health care improvements
