Leadership and Development Program for Nurses in General Practice

The Australian Divisions of General Practice (ADGP) has commissioned the University of New England Partnerships (UNEP) to establish a Practice Nurse Leadership and Development Program. In acknowledgment of the key roles that practice nurses are playing in the primary care sector our organisation recognised that it is important for practice nurses to become involved in developing their profession and in contributing to decisions about the planning and delivery of primary care services. In order for practice nurses to be able to operate effectively and with confidence in these roles we need to provide potential leaders with skills and knowledge in leadership and management.

ADGP believes that the introduction of this program will assist in raising the professional profile of practice nursing as an important area of nursing practice. It will also provide a career pathway for those practice nurses interested at venturing into leadership and management roles.
