It is my pleasure to invite you to our next IPAC Conferences in Christchurch.
Primary health care in New Zealand is enjoying its most significant progress in decades. Two particular initiatives stand out. One, led by the general practice sector, is the development of Organised General Practice (OGP) through IPAs. The other, led by government, is the continuing implementation of the Primary Health Care Strategy, with significant new funding for primary care and the widespread and rapid introduction of PHOs throughout New Zealand.
These dual approaches are reflected in two major conferences in 2005.
In March the Ministry of Health hosts Primary Focus 2, which will illustrate the breadth of activity occurring throughout the sector.
In May IPAC will complement this by examining a number of topics in greater depth. How do we preserve the clinical gains that OGP demonstrates, whilst enhancing community participation through PHOs? What must change, or endure, if we are to realise the benefits of enormous investment of financial and intellectual capital in recent years? How do we refine the models of care that have emerged to ensure that they can deliver better health outcomes yet remain sustainable?
Feedback from our Conference in Rotorua this year was exceptionally positive. We promise that we will continue with the best of last year's conference style and structure, together with an exciting social programme and generous Christchurch hospitality. I look forward to welcoming you in May 2005.
Kind regards Harry Pert Committee Chair |
