The National Primary Mental Health Care Network (NPMHCN) supports GPs in the provision of quality mental health care. The Network was established under the National Mental Health Strategy in June 1999.

The NPMHCN aims to:

• provide accessible primary mental health care education and skills-based training to GPs
• facilitate the development of partnerships between GPs and specialist mental health services - public, private and non-government.

The National Primary Mental Health Care Network includes:

• A National Primary Mental Health Coordinator based at ADGP
• A Primary Mental Health Care Development & Liaison Officer (DLO) in each of the eight State/Territory Based Organisations (SBOs) of divisions of general practice.

The network is supported by a National Primary Mental Health Care Clearing House (PARC).

PARC is located at Flinders University South Australia and has established a mental health database and information service for GPs, the general public and Divisions of General Practice.  This is accessible through the following website: http://www.parc.net.au
