Familiarisation Training Better outcomes in mental health care
The Familiarisation training is the 'business case' training and aims to familiarise GPs with each of the key components of the Better outcomes in mental health care initiative including:
- Education and training for GPs
- 3 Step Mental Health Process
- Focused Psychological Strategies
- Access to Allied Health Services
- Access to Psychiatrist Support
Key Achievements
ADGP has been funded by the Department of Health and Ageing to develop the Familiarisation training program. Key achievements include:
- Development of a national, multi-media Familiarisation training resource and distribution of 3200 copies to GPs, Divisions and practice staff across Australia.
- Delivery of 11 train-the-trainer workshops to Divisions of General Practice across state and territory in partnership with the State Based Organisations.
- Evaluation data indicating the Familiarisation training program is a useful and effective model for disseminating information to GPs and Divisions on the initiative.
- More than 1900 GPs have completed the Familiarisation training through their Divisions of General Practice since July 2002.
