About APNA

Prior to APNA being formed, there wasn't a formal support network for nurses working in general practice.

APNA was incorporated on the 10th August 2001, and our first National Executive was elected on the 16th August to represent and promote the interests of practice nurses by developing and maintaining networks with key stakeholders.

Juliet Esmonde
Committee Member
Juliet has been a qualified nurse for 19 years and a practice nurse for 9 years working in a busy five doctor practice. She started in general practice knowing next to nothing and learned very quickly that knowledge and networking is very empowering. She began working on her immunisation endorsement which led onto work in immunisation support at the local Division. Juliet is an assessor for the immunisation endorsement course and is just completing a Pap Smear credentialed course. Her week is split between the two jobs which gives her an overview into how diverse practice nursing can be.

Jo Humphreys
Committee Member
Jo has been nursing for almost 30 years, mostly in a small country town in Gippsland Victoria. She's a Division 1 nurse, credentialled Pap test provider and Nurse Immuniser. Jo has worked in a busy Country General Practice which services her hospital, with a staff of 8 doctors and 3 nurses.

Marion Jenkins Marion Jenkins
Committee Member
I completed my training at Prince Henry's Hospital in 1977. Have worked in Aged Care for 26 years. Have been a Practice Nurse at the Chadstone Medical Centre for nearly 4 years.

Short and sweet! Can't think of any thing else to bring me up to the level of the rest of you...no post grad diplomas or certificates, just pretty basic. When my children leave home, if I'm not too old and demented, maybe I'll be able to undertake the diploma in Practice Nursing!
