The Pharmaceutical Alliance (comprising CSL Ltd, Eli Lilly Australia Pty Ltd, GlaxoSmithKline Pty Ltd, and Merck Sharp & Dohme Australia Pty Ltd)
The objectives of the Joint Venture are to:

further develop the ICP clinically, technically and methodologically, expanding on the experience of ICP Phase 1;

measure the impact of using evidence based best practice which includes decision support software, integration and quality use of medicine (QUM principles on GPs behaviour and patient health outcomes for the management of asthma, congestive heart failure and depression (and possibly diabetes as a fourth disease area);

use the ICP model of care to increase integration with other health care providers where the Parties deem it appropriate;

assess the feasibility of widespread implementation of the ICP and particularly the capacity to expand ICP into other Divisions of General Practice (from ICP Phase 1) and other diseases (from ICP Phase 1) (eg diabetes);

demonstrate that use of evidence based best practice by GPs can optimise patient outcomes, improve the efficiency of resource utilisation and impact on health policy development and decision making; and

collect drug utilisation data in order to assess the effect of the ICP on prescribing habits. |
