Being fit comes at a cost. Usually that cost is energy and time. Being a Division Liaison Officer is no different. Earning the privilege to enter a practice and assist them with accreditation takes work and you need to attend more than just a Risky Business workshop.

AGPAL has created a national Masterclass to run before the ADGP Forum 2004 specifically for Division staff in September. Be prepared for an interactive forum about conducting mock survey visits and making judgements about meeting the Standards.

Chronic Disease Self-Management Breakfast

Introducing CLIMATE: A Chronic Disease Patient Self Management System for Busy Clinicians

A breakfast, co-sponsored by the ADGP, the University of NSW at St Vincents Hospital and the World Health Organisation's Collaborating Center for Evidence for Health Policy.

Every day GPs see a mix of well people with intercurrent illness, people with chronic conditions that require long term management, people who are very sick and usually comorbid, as well as the frail and elderly.  But busy GPs find it difficult to spend time repeatedly educating people about their illness, and patients cannot do what is right unless they understand their treatment.  CLIMATE is a computer-based aid to patient self-management.  It is a not for profit initiative of the University of New South Wales and the World Health Organisation Collaborating Center for Evidence for Health Policy, Sydney. CLIMATE has self-management education modules for half the people with chronic conditions ? this group generates 40 per cent of consultations. This breakfast will introduce CLIMATE and showcase CLIMATE in practice through the presentation of a case study.  Participants will have the opportunity to interact with a panel of GPs and CLIMATE developers.  Tuition in CLIMATE will be available at the Pfizer Internet Cafe in the exhibition hall throughout the day.

Cmebookings.com is not just a shared events management and calendar system for Divisions. The tutorial will give attendees an understanding of how the service can be used as an infrastructure tool to increase efficiency, as a potential service for their members and as a strategic tool to allow Divisions to work smarter. The hands-on tutorial will allow participants to take the service for a test drive and in doing so gain an understanding in how it can benefit Divisions and GPs. The tutorial will showcase the improvements made to the website in the past twelve months including points management and the group bookings facility. GPs and Division staff are welcome to attend.

Supporting Australia's Young People: Launch of the National Divisions Youth Alliance Resources and new MindMatters Divisions

For the last three years the National Divisions Youth Alliance (NDYA) has been working with Divisions and GPs to support the health and well being of Australia's young people. An on-line GP training package and Divisional resource kit are the culmination of this work. More recently, the National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Strategies have funded the MindMatters Plus GP Initiative. This Initiative involves demonstration Divisions who are working with their local high schools to provide mental health education, enhanced referral pathways and improved linkages with community services in order to better respond to young people with high mental health support needs. In conjunction with other project partners, the NDYA resources and new MindMatters Divisions will be launched at this event.
