CURRENT PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS
Workforce Program
The Workforce Program is the major initiative for the NEVDGP with recruitment and retention of rural General Practitioners, provision of a locum program and General Practitioner health programs using a large proportion of Division resources. The NEVDGP is also developing a regional GP training program for implementation in the north-east area.
Information Technology Program
The Information Technology (IT) Program involves GP and practice staff training, Website development and design and practice assistance with purchasing of computers, problem solving and general support.
Continuing Medical Education Program
The NEVDGP has a very active Continuing Medical Education (CME) program with lots of 'hands on' activities. The Division has tried to maximise GP attendance at CME events by organising the programs in convenient locations - both regionally, practice based and via tele-tutorial facilities. They have also used the experience and knowledge of GP members to assist in providing education to their peers.
Health Promotion Program
The major priority of the Health Promotion Program is the Adolescent Health Access Workshops which have targeted every year 9 & 10 student in each secondary school in the Division area. A very interactive session is held between the students and the local GP and Community Health worker to educate the students to the health facilities available to them locally. It also allows the students to educate their GPs in how to achieve a youth friendly practice.
Consumer Health
A Consumer Health Education Kits program has also been very popular with a promotion of the kits to all Community Health Organisations. Other programs which currently run under the Health Promotion program include: Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol, Cardiovascular Disease and Injury Prevention.
Immunisation Program
The Division Immunisation Program involves development of an immunisation manual, practice visits, cold chain audit and ACIR training for GPs and staff.
Operational Management
The Operational Management area of division activity includes communication (monthly newsletters, weekly Friday Fax, General Practice promotion), evaluation (all Division activities), administration (development of a policy and procedure manual) and the facilitation of a NEVDGP Consumer Liaison Group.
