CURRENT PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS
Immunisation
This project aims to improve the overall coverage of fully immunised children within the Division area. Working in co-operation with both GPs and other Health Providers the Division has taken a two pronged approach; data collection and improvement; and operational issues such as: Cold Chain and Provider Integration
At the start of this program/project the Division was 96th overall in Australia and 5th in WA. At last count the Division has leapt to 48th overall in Australia and 1st in WA.
Information Management and Information Technology
The Division recognised the important contribution IT technology would deliver to its members and so put together a service to provide GP Members with both online and on site support. The Division also has negotiated a partnership between an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to benefit and encourage our GPs to use the Internet and increase their use of e-mail facilities.
The Division is actively involved with various software and hardware suppliers to enable the Divisional Staff to be informed of current developments, which may or could benefit our GPs. These close partnerships allows the Division to be a one stop shop for GPs requiring information, thus eliminating the need for them to research information.
Accreditation
This project has been taken up by a number of GP Practices within our Division. The Division undertake site visits, assists with production of both Procedures Manual and Infection Control Manual and closer to the deadline for Accreditation the Division undertakes a "Dry Run" Accreditation Visit. There are currently six practices accredited, ten registered, and six yet to register.
Practical Mental Health
The Division has developed a working partnership with the Coastal and Wheatbelt Mental Health Service to coordinate a process/system to address the needs of GPs and Mental Health patients in the Division.
Continuous Medical Education
Continuous Medical Education (CME) is a core business of the Division. The Division conducts a number of educational events during the year. Some CME events are delivered in conjunction with other stakeholders (RACGP, GPDWA and WACRRM) others are undertaken solely by the Division. The approximate participation rate of GPs at CME (Weekends) averages around 15 to 20 from 38 possible GPs.
In an attempt to meet the needs of individual GPs within the Division the Division has established a CME Grant System which enables GPs to undertake individual CME Events which the Division is unable to provide for them.
