Divisions of General Practice are local networks of GPs formed with the aim of enhancing General Practice and improving health outcomes for patients. The establishment of the Divisions was endorsed in July, 1992 by the General Practice Consultative Committee, (AMA, RACGP and Commonwealth Government).
Divisions of General Practice aim to improve health care by increasing interaction among General Practitioners and encouraging their collective contribution to the development of health policy, and to improve the quality and access of health service delivery. Divisions provide the focal point for communication between GPs, the Community and other Health Providers.
This liaison minimises professional isolation for GPs and ensures better integration of General Practice with other areas of the health care system. It assists GPs to provide quality, flexible services, addressing the current health needs of all community groups. Divisions also provide access to GP education programs.
VISION STATEMENT: Excellence and Sustainability in Rural Health
MISSION STATEMENT: To support, enhance and develop the activity of Rural General Medical Practitioners in delivering quality health services to the residents of Central Rural Queensland in collaboration and co-operation with other health service providers and consumers.
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE: The seven member Management Committee is elected annually from the membership of General Practitioners. The Management Committee meets at various times during the year, to conduct the Divisions business, with sub-committees formed as required to address specific issues.
GOALS:
- To operate an effective and efficient division responsive to GP and community needs.
- To support GPs in the provision of quality medical services.
- An increase in rural communities access to and participation in preventative health care and health promotion activities.
- To minimise the incidence of complications amongst chronically ill patients in the CQRDGP region.
ACTIVITIES:
- Offering specialised initiatives in Primary Health Care
- Publishing and distributing monthly newsletter to members - Topics of Capricorn
- Organising professional education and personal development functions
- Participating in joint initiatives with local and state health providers
FUNDING: The Central Queensland Rural Division of General Practice is funded by the Divisions and Projects Grants Program of the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing on a population basis.
AREA: The Central Queensland Rural Division of General Practice covers an area from Moranbah in the North to Theodore in the South and West to the Gemfields. This covers an area of 163,919 square kilometers, servicing a population of 65,957 residents and 47 General Practitioners.
Membership extends beyond our Division Boundaries, to General Practitioners based in Glenden, Proserpine, Sarina, Taroom, Rockhampton, Gracemere and Agnes Water.
The Division also supports Rural Rotations for the School of Medicine at University of Queensland and James Cook University. The Division has acquired and maintains a three bedroom residence in Emerald, which is well utilised by Medical Students during Rural Placements.
