The Illawarra Division (IDGP) stretches along the coast line south of Sydney from Helensburgh in the North to Gerringong in the South. The IDGP has a strong and active membership, and has been recognised as an innovative Division with strong stakeholder ties. Much of the external funding obtained by the IDGP is a result of stakeholder partnerships. The Division has initiated and implemented a number of joint ventures that include the Illawarra Target 2000 project, Youth mental health networks, joint information technology projects with the local area health service and University of Wollongong and a Coordinated Care Trial. All key areas of focus are directed by an Outcomes Resource Group (ORG) that consists of GPs, local stakeholders, consumers and IDPG staff and management.
The IDGP has an integrated consumer network, so much so, that the Division has two Community-representative Directors of the Board as well as an independent Community Consultative Committee.
In the past the IDGP, being a pilot OBF Division, has mentored a number of other NSW Divisions, and continues to do so specifically in the area of IM/ IT. The IDGP believes that this form of dissemination is essential in planning and direction setting for IM/ IT strategies for General Practice.
Current stakeholders include: Illawarra Area Health Service, local councils, locally based pathology and radiology companies, local Private Health care providers, DoCS, Illawarra Retirement Trust, the combined local media of the Illawarra, Aboriginal Medical Service, local Youth related services (public and private), Healthy Cities, Illawarra Mutual Building Society, Specialist Groups, Illawarra Health Fund, University of Wollongong.
