The Northern Sydney Division of General Practice Inc represents GPs who have a connection with the Northern Sydney area. Operating as an incorporated association with an eight-year history, the Division estimates that 77% of all possible GPs in the area are members. A small proportion of members are GPs who live and work outside our geographical area.
Apart from acting as a local network and providing member services, the Division liaises with other health service providers in optimising community and primary care for the area. The Division also conducts useful projects that address identified needs and acts as an important resource for organised GP activities in the area.
The Division is governed by a seven-member Management Committee, and employs ten staff. The Division's activities are conducted under three program areas. In addition to its constituent members, the Division receives, consults and is guided by input from the community, other stakeholders and consumers.
Some stakeholders include Royal North Shore Hospital, North Shore Private and other smaller local hospitals, Northern Sydney Health, University of Sydney Northern Clinical School, consumers, neighbouring Divisions, and State and Commonwealth Departments of Health.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

- into the running of the Division and its activities.
- The continuation and growth of the IM/IT program area, and the strengthening of a working relationship with the Area Health Service Information Services Department.

- A growing membership.
CHALLENGES FOR THE FUTURE
- Continuing to maintain focus on our business plan activities.
- Maintaining an appropriate service for local GPs.
- Developing a solid Divisional structure to facilitate the implementation of the strategic plan.
