The Central West Gippsland Division of General Practice has experienced a growth in activities over the past 12 months with an organisational restructure, additional programs and experienced staff, and an increase in involvement in Division activities from member GPs.
The Division deals with a variety of stakeholders that include Division GP members and staff, practices and staff within the Division, other primary care and acute care service providers, consumers, Department of Health and Aged Care, Department of Human Services, other Divisions, GPDV, ADGP and RWAV. The Division strives to provide identified services to member GPs and their practice staff and work with stakeholders on a broad range of health issues and strategies.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
- Delivery of appropriate and helpful services and assistance to member GPs and their practice staff.
- Establishment of successful communication links with member GPs and practice staff.
- Establishment and development of partnerships with other Divisions, other primary health and acute care services, community organisations, local government and government departments.
- Assisting GPs and practices with introduction of and improvement to information technology within practices, enabling a 'smarter' working environment.
- Conducting educational programs within the Division, thereby saving GP members from having to travel to Melbourne.
- The Division members are kept abreast of political developments in the medical field through representation on State and Federal medical organisations and committees.
- Involvement in a partnership with Latrobe Community Health Services and the Centre for Rural Health for the establishment of the unique Moe After Hours Medical Service.
CHALLENGES FOR THE FUTURE
- Review and improvement of the operation of the Division.
- Seeking other sources of income for Division programs.
