What is the best way of managing health and disease in today�s society? The debate covers the nature of health service provision; possible tools for achieving best practice - how do we measure the success of health initiatives, and where do increasingly sophisticated information technologies fit in; considerations of ethics and equity; use of controversial medical technologies; maintenance of privacy; and prioritisation in allocation of resources.

Health Outcomes 2006 will explore:

• the contributions - realised and potential - of health outcomes assessment in the context of major demographic, social, political and environmental changes;
• the applications of information and communication technologies both in managing data for research and clinical application and in extending health service reach;
• the role and implementation of health outcomes evaluation processes in the National Health Priority Areas and in relation to specific population groups (eg. Indigenous people, children and adolescents, people from a non-English speaking background, women�s and men�s health and people with disabilities); and
• the particular characteristics of evaluation projects which have made a real difference to the health outcomes of their target group(s).
