Event Description

Frontiers of Trauma Treatment with Children & Young People
Examining the role of attention, memory, arousal, modulation and the therapeutic relationship.

A seminar with Dr Bessel van der Kolk (USA)

In the wake of the insights arising from trauma and the brain, a range of new approaches to treatment with children and young people have been developed. Many of these can be considered to be fundamental shifts from earlier therapeutic paradigms. Starting with a review of recent studies on the
neurobiology of trauma, seminar participants will examine the utility of approaches from a variety of different traditions. Using real life case examples, Dr van der Kolk will describe the innovation required
to resource change with children who have experienced chronic traumatisation.

The one day unique seminar will focus on integrating current understandings about the effects of trauma on attention, affect regulation, perception and other brain functions into therapeutic processes
that are effective in assisting children and young people in a variety of settings recover from the impact of abuse related trauma.
