Event Description

Wounds are the most prevalent cause of morbidity and death in rural Australia, particularly in Indigenous communities.  Wounds are commonly related to injury and to chronic conditions such as diabetes and the immobilisation associated with advancing age.

Rural areas are burdened by a higher prevalence of harder-to-manage wounds.  This is not only due to factors such as limited resources and potentially hazardous occupations, but can also be due to the poor nutrition often found in rural and remote areas where fresh foods are limited.

This program provides GPs, nurses, pharmacists, podiatrists, Indigenous Health Workers and other health professionals with the latest wound management skills appropriate for a setting with limited resources.
