Invitation

Dear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure once again to invite you to participate in the Divisions of General Practice Network Forum for 2002: "Building Excellence in Primary Health Care". This year we are back in sunny Brisbane, at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, from 7-10 November 2002.

The annual ADGP Forum demonstrates the increasing reach and influence of the Divisions' Network in the Australian primary health care sector. At Forum 2001, over 92% of Divisions were in attendance, with delegates representing over 180 different organisations in all. The Trade Exhibition included exhibitors from pharmacy, nursing, IT, university, rural organisations, insurance, and practice management fields, and was well received by the majority of participants.

This year we are expecting up to 1000 delegates, including General Practitioners and Divisions of General Practice staff, other health professionals, key health organizations, government staff, and other national stakeholders. A number of other organizations are also planning major meetings to coincide with the 2002 Divisions' Forum, including the General Practice Computing Group (GPCG), and the Queensland PHCRED consortium.

The Forum Program will provide opportunities for delegates to hear about and discuss major current and emerging issues in primary health care. Themes that will be highlighted in the concurrent sessions include General Practice Teams, Quality, Information Management, Access and Continuity, and Working with Consumers. Health & Ageing Minister Senator Kay Patterson and Shadow Minister Stephen Smith have been invited to provide keynote addresses, and invitations have also been extended to experienced guest speakers from Australia and overseas. The Forum also incorporates the National Divisions Youth Alliance/Mental Health one-day conference "Youth In Mind".

Divisions Day will again feature workshops for Division Board members, Management and Program Staff on governance and business issues for Divisions, building on the Vision for Divisions Summit in July 2002.

The Trade Exhibition and Divisions Showcase Poster Display will be the largest yet, with 5,000m2 of dedicated exhibition space. The Forum also offers a number of fun optional Partners and Families activities for GPs and their families.

Planning is underway to ensure the annual Gala Dinner lives up to its reputation for excitement, dancing and excellent entertainment.

I look forward to welcoming you to Forum 2002.
